Itinerary so far...
Immerse yourself in the hidden beauty of London on a unique black cab tour through the City's enchanting gardens. Escape the bustling streets and discover tranquil oases like Trinity Square Gardens, steeped in maritime history, and Seething Lane Gardens, where literary figures like Samuel Pepys once roamed. On this tour you will enjoy the benefits of both a qualified driver and also a dedicated, experienced tour guide with the aim to visit as many gardens as possible.
The journey continues with themed gardens dedicated to legendary figures like Dick Whittington at Whittington Gardens, and charming terraced havens like Cleary Gardens/Huggin Hill, concealing Roman secrets. We'll pay homage to "Flowering Fred," the city planner who championed London's green spaces, and discover modern marvels like the Reflection Garden, offering a picture-perfect moment with the mirrored dome of St Paul's Cathedral.
History buffs will be enthralled by the landscaped remains of Christchurch Greyfriars, the city's once-grand church. Finally, find peace and reflection at Postman's Park, a haven for office workers and home to a poignant memorial to everyday heroes.
We then visit Cross Bones Graveyard and Red Cross Gardens in Red cross Way, Southwark, which are both really interesting places. Cross Bones is the resting place of 17th century prostitutes or “outcasts” but now is a place of reflection and peace. The Red Cross Gardens and associated cottages was implemented by Octavia Hill the founder of the National Trust.
Crossing over the River Thames we'll drive along Victoria Embankment taking in the gardens designed by Alexander McKenzie and opened in 1875. From here we'll visit St James's Park—the oldest of the Royal Parks where you'll be able to take in excellent views of Buckingham Palace.
To finish our black cab and walking tour we'll take a final short rides to the quirky Garden Museum housed in a church, nestled next to Lambeth Palace. Here, you can delve into London's rich gardening history, explore the current exhibition, and even get a glimpse of Alan Titchmarsh's jumper! There's also an excellent restaurant, but be sure to book as it's very popular.
